I thought it proper to acknowledge the current wave of success being bestowed upon my good friend Tiki Taane at present. Tiki's album and most recent single "Always On My Mind" are presently sitting at the Number 4 position on the NZ album and singles chart respectively! Congratulations Tik!
Now for the back story; Dirty Records and TikiDub productions formed a joint venture in the beginning of last year to collectively release Tiki's debut solo album "Past Present Future". The music is phenomenal. If you havn't picked up the album yet then one listen to the opening track 'Tangaroa' should convince you of that fact.
We released the record in October '07 and it debuted at number 9 in the album chart and then fell back a bit in the following weeks. The plan was always to let this album have a slow build and work it from the grass roots, up through the ranks, and spread to mainstream NZ with our prediction (hope!) being that by christmas this year we would be sitting on a platinum plus album. Lofty goals they may have been but progress to date is really proving this could be the case (we celebrated gold sales status only a month ago, presently the album is sitting somewhere in the vicinity of 11,000 sales in NZ, platinum being 15k).
So in short I just wanted to take a moment to share these awesome acheivements and thank all the crew holding down Tiki Taane and Dirty Dub; Nina Kaye, Ingrid, Callum, Peter & The Rhythm Method Crew, Shapeshifter Crew and the whole Tikidub extended whanau. Thanks for holding tight to the plan, Shot!!
Im pretty sure Im the last to post this out of all my mates but I wanted to allow time for that tour poster to sink in!
Check out Dave rhyming to the Clarence beat off my recently released mini-instrumental album. He goes in (pause).

I was having an interesting conversation on friday night with a friend over a couple beers. Me and my friend were discussing the latest Serato Itch software and other innovations in dj'ing technology. I suggested the idea of removing the turntable or CDJ styled controllers and instead replacing it with a touch surface or pad similar to the trackpad you have on the laptop you are probably using to read this blog.
Well, little did I know, but a young man by the name of Scott Hobbs has already created a prototype for this very thing and taken it one step further by using 2 large touchscreens, which not only follow your hand movement but display information (waveforms, cue points, transport controls etc) at the same time. Its called the Attigo TT. As you can see its only a prototype at this stage but I think he's definitely on the right track. Can't wait to see what's next...

Its been out for 7 days now and as of 3:30pm Friday 23rd May (NZ Time) I have received 388 downloads for the P-Money Instrumental mini-album "This Is A Beat Tape". I reckon thats pretty good. I had close to 100 downloads within the first 24hrs of the link being up and the remainder steadily throughout the week.
I have noticed when I've posted single tracks in the past that they get gobbled up faster and in equal or greater numbers (presumably because a 5mb download is more appealing and takes less time than a 52mb file such as this) so I will be posting links to each track individually over the weekend for those people who wanna preview all the beats and only d/l the joints they like best.
And once again if you missed it, here's the link to the full 12 track mini-album with pdf artwork. Cheers!

Often in the process of making an album (yes, I am making a new album) you end up getting really itchy for people to hear the new stuff. But the other side of you (the perfectionist side, if you have one) says no, its not ready yet, wait 'til its all perfect. So to cure this personal dilemma, and whet the appetite for more P-Money music coming this year, I decided to put this together for you (and for me!).
Please enjoy and share the download link wherever you can if you feel this music deserves to be shared.
On another level, this release has been an experiment to see how effective my blog and various social networking sites (Bebo in particular) are at garnering attention for my projects (musical or otherwise). I set out to attract as much interest as I could by setting a countdown to something. What that 'something' could be was entirely up to the imagination of the viewer/fan/subscriber. There were no clues.
Now that the cat is out of the bag I intend to measure the success of my project by how many downloads I get for the Beat Tape over the next couple days. I would imagine that those people who have been paying close attention (these fantastic people whom I consider to be my core fans!) will download the file out of curiosity within the first 24hrs of the link being active. After that I would attribute any increase in downloads to the popularity of the music contained within the release (with word of mouth spreading and encouraging people to go get it cos its actually good!).
It has been a fun project already and quite an interesting study in human/internet behaviour. I was genuinely surprised by the (few) negative comments in reaction to me boldly posting a countdown and negating to inform readers of what exactly I was counting down towards! (how dare I?!!! haha).
Thankfully though, many more people were engaged, interested and had their curiosity peaked by the secrecy and speculation surrounding this mini-event. It has been a very enjoyable week of blogging! And I hope that the music being shared with you now is to your liking or at the very least a welcome surprise after all that waiting :)

Sick shit... I wasnt really sweating Jay-Z until the day I saw Streets Is Watching and this track came on....
Rampage ft. Busta Rhymes - Wild For Da Night
Rampage never really cracked it but fuck if this isnt one the illest beats of the mid 90's...and Bustas energy is unparelleled.
KRS ONE - The Return Of The Boom Bap
I remember seeing this when it first came out in '93 and buggin the fuck out. KRS musta been like fuck it, I cant afford a video for each song on my album so why not put the whole album in one video!?? As far as I know this had never been done before or since... ill concept.
In celebration of NZ Music Month we have the entire Dirty Squad together for one show only this Friday at Galatos (Galatos St, AKL City, off K'rd.)
Here's the (rough) running order:
10pm DJ D-Form
11pm P-Money DJ Set
11:40 PNC, David Dallas, P-Money
1:30am P-Money DJ Set
Tickets are $27+booking fee in advance from Real Groovy, Beat Merchants & Conch records. I expect there will be door sales also for a little bit more (say $35 ish)
see you there!

The official U.S. Remix of Savage's hit single "Swing" has just been serviced to american radio stations and it features none other than Mr. Crank Dat himself, Soulja Boy!
The track has been remastered (and it sounds to me like the mix may have been tightened up a bit too). Good stuff for Savage and Dawnraid and all involved!
If you wanna hear it there's this thing called google that helps you find stuff on the internet.

" i cant stand the anticipation! *faints* "
".....P Money will be cranking that Soulja Boy on Campbell Live. "
And Anonymous again with the clincher to put me in my place:
" bro, not to be sad... but seriously - who the f cares?? theres bigger, more important things going on dont you rekon? seems slightly lame.. "
Good to see I have your attention! Thank you ;)
And on another note, if you are in Christchurch tonight why not come on down to Concrete Club. I'll be spinning a 2hour DJ set of all kinds of Hip-Hop (old, new, hardcore and commercial) + party jams from 1-3am. Buy me a drink and I might give you a clue about what I'm cooking up for thursday night...

Here's some cellphone footage of Eve & Wyclef freestyling at The Hilton Marble Bar after the Australian MTV Awards the other weekend. Shot by my man DJ MK.
Thats me hanging around in the back by the turntables behind DJ Miss Saigon. I had a good view ;)
Ps. The random rock chick that Wyclef dances with near the end is actress Juliette Lewis.. LOL

Well not quite, but if you would be so kind as to visit the 95BFM website and place your vote for David today (before 6pm) he may very well top the bfm Top ten this week. Dave's track "Get Out The Way" has been steadily moving up the chart over the past few weeks, reaching number 5(!) last wednesday. With a little push from all of us he could crack the number one spot and we could all have a little celebration, woohoo.
So be a mate and cast your vote here or simply TXT 'vote david dallas' to 5395.

New one from Swizzy...pretty mean bro.
I likes it when swizz uses the samples (ie. Remy Ma - Whatever, Memph Bleek - Like That)
"The drums I'm a hustler and I run new york!" haha
Swizz Beats - Where The Cash At?[zshare]
I just finished watching "Street Kings" starring Keanu Reaves & Forest Whitaker with cameos by The Game & Common.
This movie feels so much like Training Day it could be a sequel (minus Denzel of course), but thats not really a bad thing. Keanu plays your typical 'bad cop' (an alcoholic who 'bends' the rules and has a penchant for extreme violence) who sets out to avenge the murder of his former partner. Along the way he discovers the murder to have been more than a random act of violence and a conspiracy begins to reveal itself. I'll leave it there and save the spoilers. But I will say this is a dope action/cop movie with a strong enough plot to keep me engaged for 2 hours.
PROPS go to:
Forest Whitaker for being the man in every movie he makes!
Common for pulling off a not half bad cameo (despite his character having some of the shittest dialogue).
NO PROPS go to:
The Game for accepting a bullshit (stereotyped-to-fuck) role and being lame with it.
The casting director for thinking Cedric 'The Entertainer' could convincingly play a smack-head dope dealer LOL.

I just got back from ozzie tonight hence Im a few hours behind the rest of the boys with posting this new track from PNC. The lyrics on this one are pretty meeeaaaan... and theres a cool video coming for it too.
