2008 - My Favourite Shit
BLACK JESUS
Subscribe to that boondocks bootleg channel now. I told you already.
THE GAME - DOPE BOYS
I think I've started my set with this tune at almost every gig since it came out. Killer beats and strong hook, some tough sounding new gangsta rap for once (musically speaking).
CRATE KINGS
Real good nerd site for djs and beatmakers. I have this on my RSS feed and they pretty much have something dope, be it an interview, new product review, scratching/beatmaking clip every morning. Goes good with my breakfast.
MY EBAY DOOKIE GOLD ROPE
Bought it to rock as part of my costume for the welli MPC Battle but now it keeps me company on the couch. I cant put it away.
LIL WAYNE - A MILLI
One long ass verse over the beat of the year. Still love this shit. "Tell the coppers HA HA HA HAA!!"
KIWI NUMBER ONES
First Tiki, then Nesian, then Me and Vince. Not to mention a number of other local acts breaking the top 20 (nod to Devolo, J. Williams etc.). Is it just me or did local urban/hip-hop/r&b begin a revival this year?? Shhh... dont jinx it!
SAVAGE SMASHING THE U.S.A.
A million sold?!!! Honestly, a year ago that was unfathomable and now its fact. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy either. Don't call it a comeback, Dawnraid really hit their stride again this year.
KID CUDI - DAY'N'NITE (Crookers Remix)
A near perfect blend of new school rap and breaks-electro-whatever you call it. My vote for breakthrough song of the year.
MTV SNOW JAM
That was the dopest gig for me personally this year. Amazing location, dope accommodation, good crew and a huge crowd! Plus it was the very first time we performed "Everything", about a week before the song was released.
MAME OSX + USB ARCADE CONTROLLER
If someone had told me I would be playing arcade SFII on my TV from my couch when I was a teenager I could never have imagined it being possible. Now its reality. Stoked (and Im still useless - word to D.Dallas).
and the year would not have been anywhere near as good if it wasn't for...
DIRTY MANAGEMENT and the Extended Fam
Love working with all you guys!
Merry Christmas to all. Have a safe one.

Let The Dollars Circulate
One of my favourite Dilla beats. My itunes reminded me of this today so I thought I would share.
For those who like this sort of thing heres the the vocal version with Steve Spacek and the original sample and check out 9th Wonder's flip of the same break.
New Years Eve
Dec 31st - Rhythm & Vines - Gisborne
.jpg)
As you can see above Im on the Cellar stage at 2130 just before A-Trak (This differs from the start time on my contract which has me starting at 2230, so take these set times as a rough guide only!). R&V is also hosting Public Enemy, Santogold and a plethora of other international and local acts this year. Peep the full schedule here.
Jan 01 - Phat 09 - Inangahua (West Coast, South Island... an hour or so from Nelson)

I'll be on about 8pm i believe. But hey, once you're in at Phat you should be in for the long haul so I doubt you could miss me. A good amount of the Dirty family will be in the house too. Tiki with DJ Dexta, Bulletproof, State Of Mind and Concord Dawn are all on the bill. More info and where to buy tickets can be found on their crazy website here.

Platinum P
Thanks to all those who bought the track and confirmed for me that digital singles are a viable and worthwhile exercise.
And also, for those in Australia, the physical CD single and digital release are now available at all good music outlets. Sweet.

3 Days In...
Quick synopsis of the trip so far. Thursday - Gold Coast at Club R+B/East.
Pretty good gig. Nice refurbished venue. Crowd was your regular ozzie R+B looking crowd but with a larger than usual kiwi contingent in the house (thanx guys!). Vince sang 'Everything' to a huge response. I played a bunch of recent rap/r+b hits and a few club favs which seemed to be the order of the day. Our host Rodney O kept us in stitches with his relentless gigolo antics, ladies of the coast watch out, or not (depending on your perspective) lol.
Friday - Kinsellas Middle Bar + Soseume @ Q Bar.
Fridays at Middle Bar are highly recommended if you are a fan of early 80's funk/soul/r+b hits (think Earth Wind + Fire, Rick James, Slave etc..). And the women there are some of the most exotic and best dressed in Sydney. I only had a quick 30mins to spin and perform the single with Vince but it went down great. Vince was singing from the floor (no stage in there) while I dj'd from the booth. We got a huge round of applause from the crowd at the completion of our set. Good to see everyone having a good time up there. Shout out to our host Corrinne.
Soseume was highly anticipated. I was booked for a full set and the gig had been promoted as my own show as opposed to the other Club gigs/promo spots.
Unfortunately whomever was responsible for sound/stage in that place cannot read or is completely indifferent to artist requirements. The turntables were set on the most awkward DJ riser I've come across. 2 t/tables on the far left and a set of CDJs + Mixer on the right set on a 25 degree angled tabletop all fixed in place. We needed to reset the whole thing on a new table, not usually a big deal but in the case it took over 35 mins to get everything set and ready to go. We pretty much lost the whole crowd during change over from a band they had warming up and kinda struggled to bring them back once it got going. In the end we still got our point across with Vince pulling off another flawless live performance of Everything and even threw in some old DMC style DJ tricks to entertain the assembled few. In hindsight it was not so bad but I was pissed off on the night lol. Next time can somebody please read the tech specs in advance?? Thanks guys.
Today is saturday and we are travelling to Melbourne for tonights show at Seven nightclub. Total Eclipse of the X-Ecutioners is on tonite at the same venue so it should be a great night. Wish us luck!
