Ask M-Phazes

My ozzie mate M-Phazes has posted a bunch of vids answering the most common questions he gets from fans. In this episode he answers the age old query "How do you get your beats heard by artists and labels?".

Props to Phazes for coming up with this clever means of sharing the knowledge and interacting with his fans.

I like the idea so much that I'm gonna blatantly rip him off and do my own version "Ask P-Money". Leave your questions in the comments here and I'll pick out the best ones to answer on my youtube channel. Sweet!

Instant Survey

I posted the above hypothetical question a few minutes ago and here's the results from the first 25 responses. Not scientific at all but still a somewhat interesting gauge of public opinion at dinnertime on a tuesday.

The 5 Top Pairings:
SCRIBE + DAVID DALLAS x4
David Dallas + Young Sid x2
Scribe + Savage x2
Scribe + Mareko x2
Scribe + PNC x2

And The Other Suggestions:
Scribe + Tyna
Scribe + Tiki
Scribe + Che-Fu
Scribe + Ladi 6
Scribe + Rapture Ruckus
Scribe + Young Sid
Young Sid + Ethical
Young Sid + Dane Rumble
PNC + Mareko
PNC + Tyna
Mikey Rockwell + Bjorn (Opensouls)
Bret + Jermaine (LOL)

Most Mentions:
Scribe x13
David Dallas x6
Young Sid x5
PNC x4
Mareko x3
Savage x2

And there we have it. Scribe and David Dallas are the most anticipated pairing! (Thats good cos Ive got something lined up with those 2 coming soon [pause]).
Interesting to note Scribe had the most mentions without any prompting from me. Although I must admit people do strongly associate P-Money with Scribe so that may have subliminally (or consciously) affected their choices. But yet it still seems he is very popular!

This was fun. And a cool way to link twitter with blogging. Thanks for playing!

Productivity

Had a real good day in studio with Scribe today. We put down parts on 3 more songs. All keepers!
Here's an incredibly short clip from our session. I turned the webcam on for a few seconds and caught the start of a verse. I thought you might like to see. Once this tracks get's released I'll share the video of the whole verse.

Scribe & P-Money - "Greenlight, Go"

My man Scribe came over to the house tonight. We haven't kicked it in ages. It was really good to catch up. He was a little late getting here from the airport so I decided to mess around and make some beats while waiting. I hooked up this one particular record, that I had been saving for him, and had it ready to go once he arrived. Scribe jumped on it and we recorded this demo about half an hour ago. We like it a lot. Here it is for your listening pleasure. We thought we should share ;)

The Dream In Studio

This 'in studio' clip shows The Dream composing and recording 2 tracks from his latest album Love VS Money. I really like that album and enjoyed watching parts of the process exposed here.

They claim both these tracks were completed in 2 hours, which I find debatable. Especially considering how many takes he does on some simple lines here. At that rate the vocals alone would take 2-3 hours to record for each song.
And speaking of vocals, you can hear he's off pitch pretty much the whole time. It's a far cry from the perfection of the final recordings. The engineer is putting in some serious overtime on auto-tune or melodyne for this one. This doesnt detract from how great a songwriter The Dream is, but it does shine a bright light on his limitations as a vocalist.
Not knocking The Dream at all, he's my favourite R&B artist at the moment. And I also found it interesting that he uses the MPC3000 to program his beats, who knew?!
